Here are some organizations we frequently volunteer with and what they do:
"Oregon Food Bank distributes emergency food to hunger-relief agencies throughout Oregon and Clark County, Wash."
At events through the Oregon Food Bank, you will package foods to be sent to various shelters in the area.
"Rain or shine, 52 weeks a year, hundreds of needy people have a hot meal and a community gathering place because generous supporters understand food is a human right and hunger is a human wrong. Every Sunday for twenty-one years Potluck in the Park volunteers have prepared and served healthy wholesome meals with dignity and kindness. The secret to Potluck in the Park’s staying power is the story of its people. Our tenacious teams of career-volunteers have inspired thousands of other volunteers to donate their time, talent and money. Their dedication and passion has made Potluck in the Park a touchstone for a community in crisis. "
At events, you will help with set up, clean up, and get a chance to serve food to Portland's homeless. It's a very direct and rewarding experience.
"We believe the book gap is a problem we can solve with broad community involvement. The Children’s Book Bank engages schools, businesses, faith groups, civic groups, individuals, scouts, teams, etc. in collecting and preparing donated books for distribution."
At events, you will clean books: erasing marks, wiping down covers, taping torn pages.
"City of Portland Sunday Parkways presented by Kaiser Permanente promotes healthy active living through a series of free events opening the city's largest public space - its streets - to walk, bike, roll, and discover active transportation while fostering civic pride, stimulating economic development, and represents the community, business, and government investments in Portland's vitality, livability, and diversity."
Most of the events take place in the summer, but at them you will man an intersection. It's a great way to stay engaged in Key Club even when we don't have weekly meetings.
